What is a standpipe?
A standpipe is a device with a tap that can be connected to an underground hydrant. It allows the use of water from the distribution network in places where there is no direct water connection.
When to apply for a rental?
Send your request at least 21 calendar days before the date you wish to use the standpipe.
How much does it cost?
After receiving your request, we will send you a lease contract by mail as well a deposit request of € 1,000.
Once you bring the standpipe back, we will check and read the water meter. You will receive a bill by post covering the rental of the standpipe, the water consumption and any costs related to damage to the meter. We will refund the deposit after the bill has been paid.
Where to get a standpipe?
Once we receive your deposit, you can come and pick up the standpipe at our Centre Technique.

Our Centre Technique is open from Monday to Thursday from 8 to 12 and from 13 to 15.30, and on Friday from 8 to 12 and from 13 to 15.
Do not forget to bring the lease contract: we will not be able to deliver the standpipe without this document.

Where to return the standpipe?
You can bring the device back to our Centre Technique.
We will then check and read the water meter in order to issue a bill.
You need a standpipe to get drinking water?
You will use the standpipe to drink, cook, rinse or prepare food or to wash food-related equipment? In that case, you cannot pick up and return the standpipe yourself.
If the water is going to be used for human consumption, only VIVAQUA is authorized to install the standpipe in order to guarantee the potability control process. Once the standpipe is placed, it cannot be moved under any circumstances.
You must also provide a location map that clearly indicates the preferred location of the standpipe . VIVAQUA must check that all technical and sanitary aspects are met before validating your request. VIVAQUA will thus have to perform potability analyses. These analyses will be invoiced.
Without this additional information, we will not be able to install the standpipe .
Good to know
- The standpipe remains the property of VIVAQUA and cannot be lent to a third party
- You will be charged any damage resulting from improper use of the standpipe, including damage caused by third parties
- The standpipe can only be used on the territory of the 19 municipalities of the Brussels Region
