PFAS are manufactured by the chemical industry for their non-stick, water-repellent and heat-resistant properties. Hence, these substances are used in a wide range of products such as:

- paints, varnishes, inks, dyes
- water- and stain-repellent coatings
- pesticides & herbicides
- foam extinguishers (excluding CO2 extinguishers)
- non-stick coatings
- waterproof clothing
- shampoos, sun creams, cosmetics…
They can also be found in foods such as
- eggs
- milk
- meat
- fish
- tap water
